Chicago’s first casino is preparing to open by the end of August at Medinah Temple. Bally’s, the company that will operate the establishment, recently posted signs at the site in River North.

In an interview with a local publication, Bally’s chairman Soo Kim confirmed that the casino is ready to receive visitors. We’ve done our job and now the regulators are coming in to make sure everything is functioning the way they want it to. The doors should open soon. It’s pretty exciting, Kim noted.

The Medina Shrine is a historic building with stunning architecture. Chris Jewett, director of corporate development for Bally’s, told the Chicago Tribune, It’s probably the most beautiful temporary casino you’ve ever seen. There’s a wow effect even just walking inside. It’s unique.

In June, the Illinois Gaming Board determined that the operator’s plan for the temporary casino had reached preliminary suitability. That allowed Bally’s to move gaming equipment there. The facility still needs final regulatory approval to open. Last month, representatives of the operator also organized a tour of the casino for local media.

The three floors of the building will house 800 machines and 56 table games. Still, the 3,160-square-foot gaming area is one of the smallest among the 13 gambling establishments open in Illinois.
