China has won the largest jackpot in the country’s history to the tune of 680 million

A 28-year-old resident of Guizhou Province has become the owner of the largest lottery prize in the history of China in the amount of 680 million yuan (8.85 billion rubles). The winner was so excited he couldn’t sleep.

According to a local TV channel, the man bought 133 tickets worth 2 yuan (26 rubles). In all of them, he bet on the same group of 7 numbers. In the end, each ticket brought the owner prize money worth 5.16 million yuan (67.12 million rubles).

The winner wished to remain anonymous. All that is known is that he has a small business in the city of Anshun. Commenting on the emotions of winning, the man said that he received a message about the big win on his cell phone at night and was so excited that he could not sleep. I didn’t believe it at first, so I checked several times. I was too excited to sleep, he admitted.

The winner also noted that he researched the trend of winning numbers falling out in previous lottery draws. He chose someand also added one of his lucky numbers.

Under the Personal Income Tax Act, the man will be charged one-fifth of the prize won. Thus, the net winnings amounted to 544 million yuan (just over 7 billion rubles).

The jackpot won by a Guizhou resident has updated the record for Chinese lottery winnings. Previously, the largest prize was 570 million yuan (7.4 billion rubles at current exchange rates) won by a player from Beijing in 2012.
