Gambling operator GKL’s net profit in 2023 exceeded 44 billion

Grand Korea Leisure Co Ltd (GKL) recorded a net profit of 44.08 billion won (Rmb2.9 billion) for the whole of last year. In 2021, the South Korean casino operator reported a net loss of 22.74 billion won (RUB 1.5 billion) due to the effects of the coronavirus pandemic.

GKL’s total sales in 2023 reached 396.69 billion won (26.3 billion rubles). The result improved 51.3 percent compared to the figure for 2022. Operating profit in 2023 amounted to 51.31 billion won (3.4 billion rubles). In 2022, the company reported an operating loss of 13.92 billion won (923.4 million rubles).

The operator filed its financial report with the Korean stock exchange on Thursday. The figures released are based on preliminary data, which is subject to audit. However, GKL has already commented on sales growth and a return to profit in 2023. According to the company, this is due to an increase in the number of overseas visitors throughout the year. Earlier, the operator said it plans toIt will attract even more VIP clients from abroad. The initiative envisioned increased marketing activities in Mainland China, as well as in the Japanese megacities of Tokyo and Osaka.

State-owned operator Grand Korea Leisure reports to the Korea Tourism Organization. The latter is affiliated with the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism. GKL manages the Seven Luck chain of gambling facilities, catering exclusively to foreigners. Two of them are located in Seoul and another casino in Busan.
