Philippines aims to surpass Singapore to become Asia’s second gambling center in 2025

Chairman and CEO of Philippine gambling regulator PAGCOR Alejandro Tengco spoke in an interview about the future of the industry in the country. In his opinion, the Philippines could overtake Singapore as early as next year and become Asia’s second largest gambling center after Macau.

Tengco believes that new integrated resorts will increase the flow of visitors and compensate for the decline in the number of Chinese tourists. The Bloombery Resorts Corp. facility, for example, will begin operations later this year, with plans to open up to eight casinos in total. PAGCOR also intends to sell the state-owned gaming facilities to private companies no later than early 2026pesos (Br470.46 billion).

According to Tengco, the country’s future casinos will be located in Manila and at the former US Clark Air Base, as well as in tourist destinations such as Cebu and Boracay. As markets open up, new customers will come in, the PAGCOR chairman said.

According to government data, Chinese tourist arrivals to the Philippines last year fell to just 15 percent of 2019 levels. Tengco believes this will not hinder the industry’s growth as local casinos mainly attract South Koreans, Iaonline gaming, Tengco believes.
