Pizza delivery man from England decided not to quit his job after winning 500,000 in the lottery

Marius Preda from Tamworth, England, won a prize of £500,000 (58.7 million rubles) in February’s Best of the Best (BOTB) draw. Despite the large sum, the 28-year-old pizza delivery man decided not to quit his job at Papa John’s.

Marius earns about £12 (1409 rubles) an hour. A week’s work brings the man about 480 pounds (56,365 rubles), and a year – 24,960 pounds (2.93 million rubles). Thus, the courier’s annual salary is 200 times less than the amount of the prize received.

Commenting on the win, Preda said: I am very happy to win and full of emotion. It will take me some time to reflect on it, but we would like to buy a new house and go on vacation. Winning such a sum of money is life-changing.

Marius has a wife and child. He moved to the UK from Romania in 2019. When talking about his vacation plans, he meant a trip to his homeland.

BOTB presenter Christian Williams said: Huge congratulations to Marius on winning this amazing cash prize in our biggest draw. We’re always looking for new ways to give people the chance to win fantastic prizes, and it was great to have the chance to surprise Marius the way we did. It’s probably the best tip a courier has ever received.

Best of the Best is a UK-based online platform that runs regular draws for cash and other valuable prizes such as cars and motorcycles. The half a million that went to Preda was the largest amount in BOTB’s history.

Another lottery spokesman said: ‘Marius, who had been a pizza delivery driver for about four years, returned to work the very next day. He planned to spend the money on a new home for himself and his family.
