Silverstein Properties and Greenwood Gaming have proposed a casino project in New York City

The competition for three licenses in New York is gaining momentum. Silverstein Properties and Greenwood Gaming and Entertainment have joined the race by unveiling The Avenir.

The casino resort is proposed to be built on a 92,000-square-foot site in midtown Manhattan. It is owned and controlled by Silverstein Properties. Larry Silverstein, chairman and founder of that company, previously worked on the World Trade Center site redevelopment.

It is noted that the site has no difficult obstacles to logistical infrastructure. Silverstein and Greenwood emphasize that their project will help revitalize the city and state’s economy and revitalize the neighborhood. The Avenir will consist of two 46-story towers connected by a bridge, with 1,000 hotel rooms. The project also includes a casino, 12 full-service restaurants, a concert hall and an art gallery showcasing the work of local artists.

Larry Silverstein said, We need to work with state and local leaders … to make New York City a better place to live, work and visit. We’ve done it before, and I’m sure we can do it again. I’ve always said you should never bet against New York City. This city and state will come back bigger and better than ever before.

Eric Hausler, CEO of Greenwood Gaming and Entertainment, said they are excited to join Silverstein Properties. He believes the casino complex will reflect the unique character and spirit of New York City and attract visitors from around the world.

Silverstein and Greenwood are also poised to provide over 100 apartments that are 100 percent affordable amid what they call an escalating housing crisis. The project is slated to create 9,500 jobs: 4,000 during construction and 5,500 permanent jobs that will open when the work is completed.
