Sweden’s gambling market revenue to exceed 27 billion in 2023

The Swedish Gambling Authority Spelinspektionen has published a fresh report on the financial results of licensed operators for last year. The total revenue of the gambling market in 2023 amounted to 27.1 billion SEK (over 240 billion rubles), which is about 1% less than the figure for 2022.

The regulator’s report also collected data for the fourth quarter of 2023. The total revenue of the gambling industry amounted to 7.1 billion kroner (62.9 billion rubles), making the last quarter the most profitable in the whole of last year. Compared to the third quarter, the figure was 5.9% higher. However, the market earned 1.3% more in the last quarter of 2022.

From October to December 2023, the industry leader was the iGaming sector, which combines online casinos and sports betting. The revenue amounted to just under 4.4 billion kroner (almost 39 billion rubles).

For the whole of 2023, the iGaming sector earned 17 billion kronor (150.64 billion rubles) – 62.7% of the industry’s total revenue.I don’t know. This figure is only 0.6% lower than the one recorded at the end of 2022.

The land-based gaming machines and state lotteries sector recorded a 17.1% drop in revenues to 1.4 billion kronor (12.4 billion rubles) in the fourth quarter of 2023. The amount for the whole of last year amounted to 5.5 billion kronor (48.7 billion rubles), which is 3.6% lower than the result for 2022.

The revenue of the state gambling chain Casino Cosmopol reached 92 million kronor (approximately 815 million rubles) in the last quarter of 2023. The figure for the same period in 2022 was 33.8% higher. Total revenue for the 12 months decreased by 12.8% to 475 million kroner (4.2 billion rubles).
